Human Rights Principles

As a global biopharmaceutical producer, Samsung Biologics embeds human rights into our daily operations through principles of respect, fairness, accountability, and transparency. This ensures responsible practices across our workforce and value chain.

Our “Samsung Biologics Charter of Human Rights” is guided by international standards that include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), the OECD Multinational Business Guideline, the UN Convention on Children’s Rights, and the International Labor Organization’s Core Convention.

Our policies include general principles that uphold and respect human rights such as the prohibition of forced labor, prohibition of child labor, employment of the elderly, working hours, wages, prohibition of discrimination, and freedom of association.

Human Rights Due Diligence

Samsung Biologics Human Rights Due Diligence process helps us to assess our activities and relationships, take action to prevent or mitigate risks, and promote fairness and accountability across our value chain.

Any human rights concerns that are raised are promptly investigated and addressed.

We are committed to continues improvement through regular evaluation of our practices to ensure lasting respect for human rights.

    • We conduct risk assessments across all internal and external channels
    • All employees are included in the assessment process
    • Results are evaluated, and conclusions guide our improvements
  • Corrective Action
    • Analysis of root cause
    • Identification and review of process improvements to systems, structures and behaviors.
    • Findings and recommended improvement measures are formed and shared with relevant departments.
    • On approval, the implementation of corrective actions are applied.
  • Implementation & Evaluation Review
    • Examining whether and how recommendations were put into place
    • Checking post-implementation feedback and effectiveness
    • Continuous monitoring of adherence and ongoing refinement

Human Rights Awareness

Understanding the importance of Human Rights, Samsung Biologics reinforces annual training courses for all employees ensuring that our culture and mindset reflects respect, integrity, and accountability.

In 2024, 100% of employees completed the labor and human rights training with regards to disability awareness, sexual harassment prevention, workplace harassment prevention, and building a culture of mutual respect.

Culture of Constructive Dialogue

Samsung Biologics is committed to a culture of transparency and open communication for leaders and employees alike. Each team contributes to enriching corporate culture by electing a group member to join the “Culture Crew”. The “Culture Crew” represents their department and serves as a liaison between management and employees. An official forum for information exchange helps diversify opportunities for transparent communication and an internal bulletin board amplifies employee voices to create a harmonious labor-management relationship.

We respect the activities of labor unions and labor-management councils, as well as representative organizations of executives. Regular meetings are held to discuss wages and benefits, employee safety, working environment, education, and career management. Such discussions help improve working conditions for both executives and employees, establishing a mutually beneficial culture. Resulting insights are shared with all employees through internal channels, continuously encouraging win-win initiatives.

Complaint Settlements

Samsung Biologics operates an anonymous bulletin board where human rights issues can be reported through the company's communication bulletin board and the 6 major reporting centers. Victims or witnesses can report immediately through the bulletin board and when problems are identified, they are investigated, and measures are taken according to the relevant standards.

  • Issue Reported
    • A complaint that is classified as one of the six major incident categories is submitted via the bulletin board or reporting center.
  • Complaints Review Process
    • Each concern is formally assessed for validity
    • Investigations are conducted as necessary
    • Improvement measures identified
  • Recommendations Review
    • Recommendations for improvement measures are shared with assailant for their commentary and approval incorporated into continuous improvement efforts
  • Complaint Settlement
    • Measures incorporated into continuous improvement efforts. Depending on the case, disciplinary action or training may be necessary to prevent reoccurrence
